We are delighted to announce that the permanent team at Barkers has successfully achieved Carbon Literate certification following completion of the Carbon Literacy Project training at the end of 2022.
This achievement marks another important milestone in our ongoing sustainability journey and reinforces our commitment to reducing our environmental impact, supporting climate action, and continuing our progress towards a low-carbon future.
The training was delivered by Positive Planet, who supported Barkers in 2022 as we took the necessary steps to achieve carbon neutral status.
Following this milestone, the next step was to ensure our team had the knowledge and confidence to understand the impact of carbon emissions and the practical actions we can take – both individually and collectively – to support a more sustainable future.
Barkers Executive Director, Warren Kozera, said:
“It was really important to us at Barkers that we continued to lessen our carbon footprint on the planet. After gaining carbon neutral status, the logical next step was to train our team to better understand why our carbon footprint matters and the steps we can take to improve both our footprint and our handprint.”
As part of the Carbon Literacy training, every team member has made an individual pledge, committing to practical changes in their daily lives that will help reduce carbon emissions and encourage more sustainable choices.
Alongside these personal commitments, Barkers is developing a collective team pledge focused on creating wider environmental impact. This initiative will see colleagues collaborate on a project designed to raise awareness across our network, helping others better understand their own carbon footprint and make decisions that support a net zero mindset.
Becoming Carbon Literate is another step forward in our commitment to responsible business practices, sustainability, and positive environmental change. We believe that by building knowledge, encouraging action, and working together, businesses can play an important role in creating a more sustainable future.
