On the evening of 23 February 2021 Barkers Commercial Services were announced winners of the SME Leadership category at the annual Social Value Awards.
In their third year, the Social Value Awards highlight best practice from around the UK, showcasing how businesses embed social value into their culture and activities. The Awards form part of the National Social Value Conference, which is hosted by the National Social Value Taskforce and Social Value Portal. The conference brings together experts and practitioners from all sectors to share good practice and innovative ideas about how to embed social value into commissioning, procurement and delivery.
The judging panel were so struck by the significance of the Barkers submission they felt it appropriate to declare a new category; the SME Leadership award, of which Barkers are the inaugural recipients. Awarding the prize, one of the judges commented,
Through considerable pro-bono advisory services for charities, as well as significant investment in development of a social enterprise dedicated to re-shaping the lives of ex-offenders it employs, Barkers have consistently and demonstrably met and exceeded their ambitious targets for social value impact in their community.
Director at Barkers, Warren Kozera, said “At Barkers we are always looking to innovate and pioneer and so we are thrilled to be the first business to win this new award. We have a strong culture of ethical procurement and social value is embedded into all that we do. We believe that all businesses can make a positive contribution to society and aim to share our experiences with others to enable them to adopt a more purpose-driven culture.”
