Delivering a global supply chain transformation is complex – but with the right planning and governance, it can be achieved. Here’s how we helped a leading FTSE 250 manufacturer align strategy with seamless execution.

The client required support to build cohesive plans that would drive the delivery of their flagship end-to-end (E2E) supply chain programme. The programme was designed to ensure the global supply chain was fit for the future and aligned with the client’s overall strategy. Several capabilities were delivered across the full scope of the E2E supply chain, aligning the client with best-in-class fast-moving consumer goods companies. Leveraging our expertise in both Waterfall and Agile delivery methodologies, we constructed and managed a programme plan that was fully integrated with the client’s existing governance and delivery framework.

The client needed support to prevent slippages on the E2E supply chain programme. They required integrated project and programme plans to underpin delivery, allowing tower leads to focus on technical execution. Key deliverables included:

  1. Development of a delivery methodology successfully combining three existing approaches
  2. Planning standards
  3. Stakeholder engagement and education
  4. Detailed MS Project plans
  5. Plan on a Page
  6. Initiation of planning governance and weekly planning meetings
  7. Key milestone-to-risk mapping

To achieve the client’s objectives, we delivered the tools required to plan all programme activities effectively and worked closely with stakeholders to ensure workstream plans were consistently aligned. Planning workshops across all delivery towers enabled the creation of a comprehensive baselined plan. To protect the plan and ensure delivery, we focused on capturing risks and establishing ownership for mitigation strategies. Planning governance was implemented to control plan changes and ensure their implications were fully understood.

In the periods leading up to major deployments, plan review meetings were moved to a daily cadence, and all risks and issues were mapped to the plan to increase visibility and enable timely escalation.

Throughout the process, we maintained a strong focus on:

  • Maintaining high planning standards
  • Stakeholder communication
  • Driving delivery
  • Creative and pragmatic problem resolution

A dedicated project consultant was deployed to deliver the required planning services to the client.

Our planning support and governance framework enabled the client to gain full visibility and control over their E2E supply chain programme. As a result, the following outcomes were achieved:

  • Fully developed planning solution delivered, giving the client comprehensive oversight across the E2E supply chain programme.
  • Baselined plans completed with all associated risks and issues identified.
  • Planning governance established across all projects, ensuring changes were controlled and implications understood.
  • Dependencies fully mapped and understood, preventing slippage against the 2023 baseline.
