OVO Energy needed support to tender for emergency and maintenance metering services. Using our metering procurement specialist, Barkers worked with OVO Energy to successfully appoint a new service provider for these services. OVO Energy were able to realise their metering business strategy whilst also delivering savings of c. £23 million against anticipated costs.

OVO Energy required support and commercial advice to help them develop their new metering strategy and requirements and manage the procurement process through to contract award. This included drafting the tender documentation pack, managing clarifications/tender process, stakeholder/bidder communications, bid evaluation/analysis, commercial negotiations, drafting T&Cs, recommendation paper, governance, final contract documentation, bidder debriefs and contract management handover pack for Go-Live date.

Due to the scale and deadline of the project, the many stakeholder interdependencies made it more challenging.

To achieve OVO Energy’s objectives, Barkers provided a senior procurement and commercial consultant experienced in utilities metering projects in conjunction with experience of the delivery aspect of the project. This was focused upon providing guidance and strategy-setting in addition to delivering the new contract award.

Barkers managed many and varied interdependencies throughout this project and leveraged its utilities market knowledge in negotiating the commercial outcome.

Client interaction was facilitated by stakeholder project calls and weekly progress reporting. All procurement work was aligned to OVO Energy governance.

Throughout the process Barkers remained focused upon the importance of the project timeline whilst achieving an excellent commercial outcome.

A comprehensive handover pack was presented to OVO Energy to ensure OVO Energy contract management could manage the contract effectively going forward.
